Premier League allows kneeling protests, ‘Black Lives Matter’ on shirts

All the players from the 20 clubs also released their joint official statement saying they are all ready to eradicate racial prejudice.

Germany’s soccer competition, the Bundesliga, has already seen many players kneel to protest racial discrimination.

The Premier League will take no action if players decide to get down on their knees to protest racial discrimination, while ‘Black Lives Matter’ will replace the players’ names on the back of the jerseys when the league restarts next week.

Protests have erupted across the United States when an African-American man named George Floyd died after an officer identified as Derek Chauvin put a knee to his neck.

“The League supports the players’ desire for their names to be replaced by ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the back of their shirts during the first 12 games of the restarted 2019/20 season,” the Premier League said in an official statement.

“In addition, the League will support players who” kneel “before or during games. The Premier League believes that there is no place for racism anywhere,” the statement added.

The Premier League restarts its suspended season from June 17, as Aston Villa will face Sheffield United while Manchester City faces Arsenal.
